Do You Know Rear View Mirror Monitor?

Rear view mirror monitor is an awareness application that runs in vehicles, Solaris and HPUX environments.

Awareness applications are a class of collaboration tools that permit geographically distributed workers to maintain a level of awareness of each other that would normally be obtainable only through co-location. Specifically, when allowed by you and by your co-workers. A rearview mirror is a powerful way to know whether a given co-worker is at his or her table, on site but away from the table, or off site. These features of RVM are specific responses to information collected from Avaya employees showing that the time spent trying to locate co-workers represents a significant source of delay.

An important feature of car rear view mirror monitor is the persistent group chat which lets you conduct textual chat in real-time with groups of co-workers. Drivers will have the ability to set up their own groups, and may need to do so in order to have a place to post questions, disseminate information with co-workers, and even interact informally (e.g., set up a footy group). Because of the persistency of this feature, you can view the chat log for a preset number of hours after the messages were posted - invaluable in letting group members who log on later meet up with what has occured, and for viewing messages from co-workers in other time zones.

They hope that rear view mirror will allow users to have more exact awareness of distant co-workers presence and to be able to more effectively target their phone calls and their information conferences. This user guide represents an overview of mirror's features and directions on how to make full use of these features.

A rear view mirror (Called rear-vision mirror in British English) is a mirror in automobiles and other vehicles, designed to allow the driver to observe rearward through the vehicle's backlight (rear windscreen).

Usually, the rear view mirror is affixed to the top of the windscreen on a swivel mount allowing it to be freely rotated. Historically in the past, some cars had the rear view mirror mounted on top of the dashboard. Rear view mirror monitors are designed to break away to minimize injury to occupants who may be thrown against it in a collision.
